Dear Students and Postdoctoral Fellows:
The 21st International Summer Academy BIO-X on Data Science in Healthcare, Medicine and Biology sponsored by the NSF and co-sponsored by the IEEE EMB Society, the IEEE BRAIN, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of Houston, and the Technical University of Crete will be held from June 2 - June 8, 2024 in Chania, Crete, Greece.
The objective of the summer academy is to train senior undergraduate, graduates in biological science engineering, bioengineering students in data science and engineering including the theory, implementations and applications of both emerging and current computational tools, modeling and signal processing methods in medicine, molecular biology, brain sciences, population biology and genomics. The summer academy is an excellent learning, teaching and brain storming opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students. I believe that it is extremely important for students to personally meet with leaders in the field, while enjoying a pleasant location.
This year, we have several fellowships from the NSF for students to attend the summer academy. The NSF funding will be mainly used to provide the fellowships to cover the summer academy expenses of the recipients who are undergraduate and graduate students at U.S. institutions. I STRONGLY encourage you to apply for the fellowship. The fellowships will be awarded based on the scientific credentials of the candidates including their academic standing, the relevance of their research (only applies to graduate students) their career goals and the financial necessity.
Prospective candidates should send along with their application, their CVs, a recommendation letter from their advisor or their department chair, a summary of their research (only applies to graduate students) and their career goals for evaluation to Prof. Akay at makay@uh.edu by March 25, 2024.
Women, minorities, and students with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply. Additional information will be added periodically.
